Boof, albino Axolotl- May 2009.
I got Boof at 2″ in length, when he was barely half the length of my index finger and very translucent! I called him Boof oddly because of Dom DeLuise’s death – something of an inside joke.
Although I call both my axolotls ‘he’, it seems that both are in fact females, but I can’t get into the habit of calling them she!

Buoy, leucistic Axolotl – July 2009
When I first got Buoy, he had half of one gill bitten off, a leg missing, and several toes missing.

Possibly due to his missing leg, he floated around in his tank for a long time until it regrow and one day, to my relief, he finally began to sink and sit on the floor like a normal axie!
He was named Buoy due to his constant floating

Boof and Buoy have since ‘moved in together’ into a large tank once they reached around 8″. Although they still scare the hell out of one another occasionally, they’ve been quite happy and I’ve not seen any aggression.

Boof & Buoy are currently around 10″ in length, March 2010.
Wickus and Wesley, Striped Grass mice – technically October but born Dec. 09!
Wickus and Wesley were born from a pair of striped grass mice (that I had gotten in October) in December. Wesley is the extremely friendly one, he enjoys coming out of their tank and having a run up and down my arms and shoulders; Wesley is skittier and less handleable, with a wonky tail and toenail missing.
Wesley:

Wickus:

They both enjoy appearing around 9pm and demanding a peanut each, which even Wickus will take from my fingers (albeit nervously).
Rodney, champagne and tan mouse – December 2009.
I was given Rodney as an early christmas present and quite honestly, he was wonderful.
How many gerbils will cuddle up on their owners and fall asleep? Or tilt their heads for a cheek-scratch (what I called his tickle spot)! Yes, he whiffed a little bit (and his farts left something to be desired!) but he made up for it in cute.
He was prone to a lot of health problems in his short little life but despite it, only got the grump once when I attempted olive oil bathing him to sooth his sore skin! He had food allergies, breathing problems, even had a sperm plug one day, somehow picked up lice, and was eventually diagnosed with an inoperable tumour.
Rodney sadly died overnight 25/04/10. He will be greatly missed.

Basil, black eyed cream – 28.05.10
Basil came home with me from a local Leicester breeder at five and a half weeks old (I’m roughly putting his B.D at 20.04.10). Even at that young age, he was the same size that little Rodney had reached as an adult. His ears are fantastic (huuuuuuuuge) and he is brilliant, by day two of being with me he was gradually learning to climb onto my hand, and by day three he was banging things around in his tank to demand playtime! He did go through a ‘teenage’ stage of nipping and being rather territorial and moody, but after a couple of weeks turned into the softest little daftybags.

The fish – Panda Lilac & Orange Lilac telescopes, 17.10.2010
I spotted these two fish in Dobbies, the garden centre, the week before and had decided I wanted fish – more importantly, these two fish. I had been looking up and researching telescopes and their care for a little while and decided to take the plunge… but decided that if the two I had been eying up had gone by the following weekend, it was fate and I would wait.
Fortunately, they were both there and I got to bring them home!
Neither have names at the moment, I’m still a bit jittery thinking that they’ll keel over at any second but they seem pretty hardy, neither have shown signs of illness (although the smaller one, nicknamed ‘oddeyes’, has got a gimpy tail) and they eat like.. well, like they’re being starved. They loove peas and whenever I go near their tank they’re there, wiggling their daft bums and demanding food.
My odd-eyed fish died from what looked like genetic swim bladder disease on 31.12.10. My black and white fish died on 09.01.11 from unknown causes, possibly an internal tumour.

Their tank:

Milo – tabby & white moggy, 23.11.2010
Milo was kindly brought down for me to Nuneaton station on the 23rd of November. He took a little time to settle (and so did I!) but he’s a great little pal, such a softie and he certainly knows how to get people wrapped around his paw – and quickly too!
Milo was born 11.09.10 and was 11 weeks old when I got him.

Milo was castrated and chipped 14.01.11.
Another fish – white-headed calico, 02.01.2011
This chappy is very cheery, and humourously he sulked when he was introduced to the below fish!

More fish – Yellow, black and white calico & Panda lilac telescopes, 09/01/11
I got these chappies from Dobbies after my last original fish died, they’re great to watch.
The black and white one died 19.02.11 ….. not having much luck with my fish!!
