Monty

Sadly, Monty passed away last night.
I noticed him looking rather weak and breathless not long after I had came into work, but he perked up for a little food and pobbled off underground into his nest.
A few hours later, I heard some strange thumping noises, which turned out to be Monty, doing some mad springing and headbutting the corner of the tank as he suffered another small stroke, and was cold and pretty unresponsive. I popped him under a towel and onto a hot water bottle, but he sadly died about an hour later.
My poor little burmey chap.
At least I know he enjoyed all the mornings when he and his brothers got some of my cereal!
Photos after the jump..
As a young pup..
Getting older and chunkier..
And snuggling with his brothers.

Aww, sorry to hear this – I’ve always liked your colourpoint boys and would have stolen them all in a flash.

Loz, I am so sorry to hear this! Monty was such a handsome gerbil and such a chubby little guy…always made me smile when I saw him! Poor guy…how old was he?

Quite young really, I got him early ’08 I think, so around 2 years old. Poor guy had several strokes in the past year though, probably from the stress of constantly being mounted and “mated” with by Pan, who for some insane reason was absolutely sure Monty was a receptive female! Typical that when I move Pan out of the group to allow Monty to relax, he goes and pops off.

I missed this, sorry about that. I guess I’ve not been active on IGS enough.
I’m really sad for you about Monty. Like Maz, I like your all colourpoints but he was my favourite for stealing time.
What will you do about Pan now? Is it worth bringing him back or is he out on loan?

Hi Loz, just seen this, I’m so sorry to hear about Monty. RIP small boy.
I shall miss seeing him and his brothers together. I really hope your ok and that his brothers aren’t too lonely without him.

Harpo and Ob aren’t too fussed without Pan or Monty. They seemed a bit confused when they both initially vanished but aren’t too bothered now. Typical gerbils.
Pan is out “on loan” as you put it Lauryn, hopefully he’ll produce a litter to end his days doing what he loves, bossing about.

My condolences, Loz. I just finished reading your sad news. I remember when you first got the boys as pups. It doesn’t seem that long ago…
Those are some great pictures to remember Monty by. I love the pile o’ chubby gerbs.
