Featured Pet – ‘Moha, Akimi & Zena’
Ed Cope of Manchester , UK, sent these photos of his charming acacia rats, Moha, Akimi and Zena…

“I was given this trio by my good friend Jim for Christmas. I’ve had acacias before and I was devasted when the last one died earlier this year, so you can imagine how pleased I was to get some more! They were very shy at first but they’re exploring their home more now.
“Zena, the one peeking out of the nesting box, is on her own at the moment; both her name and living situation is from fighting with both Akimi and Moha! She should be getting a mate soon though.
“Akimi is living with Moha (he’s the one with the white band around his belly and back). Moha is a name from the film ’1000 BC’, as I’ve noticed that when Akimi leaves their coconut, he will drag her back – by her tail! and it reminded me of cavemen bopping their woman over the head and dragging her home, so I wanted a prehistoric name for him.
“Akimi’s name means ‘autumn fruit’, and acacia’s love fruit, so I thought the name fitted her perfectly!”
